How to rotate a PDF
- Add your PDF — drag it in or browse. You'll see the file name and page count before anything changes.
- Pick the rotation: 90° clockwise, 90° counter-clockwise, or 180° for upside-down pages.
- Choose the scope — all pages, or a specific range like
2-5, 8for mixed-orientation scans. - Click Rotate PDF and download the fixed document.
Why PDFs come out sideways
Almost always the scanner or camera's fault: the sensor captures in its own orientation, and the app that made the PDF saved the raw image instead of rotating it. Mixed batches are common too — a double-sided scan where the even pages came out rotated 180°, or a landscape spreadsheet page inside a portrait report. That's why this tool lets you target specific pages: fixing page 3 shouldn't rotate the other 40.
Rotation is lossless
Rotating a PDF page doesn't redraw anything. Each page carries an orientation flag, and the tool updates it — the text, fonts, images and vectors inside are copied over byte-for-byte. A rotated page is pixel-identical to the original, just presented the right way up in every PDF viewer, forever. (If a page was already rotated and still looks wrong, apply the rotation again — rotations add up, so two 90° turns equal 180°.)
When you need it
- Scanned documents — the classic case: one or all pages sideways after scanning.
- Phone photos to PDF — camera orientation metadata often gets lost when images become PDF pages.
- Reports with landscape pages — charts and wide tables that need landscape inside a portrait document.
- Fixing before sharing — rotate first, then optionally compress or merge into the final document.
Frequently asked questions
Is my PDF uploaded to a server?
No. Rotation happens entirely in your browser. Your document never leaves your device.
Can I rotate only some pages?
Yes. Choose Specific pages and enter a range like 2-5 or 3, 8 — the rest stay untouched. Pages already rotated get the additional rotation applied on top.
Does rotating reduce quality?
No. Rotation sets the page's viewing orientation flag — content is not re-rendered, so text and images are pixel-identical.
Why is my PDF sideways in the first place?
Usually because of scanners and phone cameras: the sensor orientation doesn't match how the document was placed, and the scanning app saved the raw orientation. Rotating fixes the page for every viewer, permanently.
Does it work on password-protected PDFs?
No — encrypted PDFs cannot be opened in the browser. Remove the password in your PDF reader first.
